Trouble Installing M700 Instrument

How do I install my M700? (instrument and software walkthrough)
I am receiving the message, 'No instrument has been installed on this machine...'

I would like to know how to install my M700 perimeter from scratch. How do I do this?

Please refer to the Medmont Studio 4 Help page for information on how to install your M700 and Medmont Studio 4 software from scratch. It includes information on how to install all instrument drivers and software components for M700.

I have plugged in and turned on my perimeter after installing my software, but when I try to start a new exam I receive the error 'No Instrument has been installed on this machine, do you want to install one now?'.

In order to use your M700, a calibration file written specifically for your perimeter will need to be loaded into Medmont Studio. This file is provided on a disc when your purchase your perimeter (on a CD labelled with your perimeter Serial Number, or on a floppy disk for older perimeters) or a major software upgrade.

Click Yes to locate your calibration file. Insert the calibration disc and browse to your PC's CD-ROM/DVD-ROM drive and locate the file called 'Mxxxxxx.icf' (where xxxxxx is your perimeter serial number). Select it and click Open.

You will now be able to click the 'Create a new M700 Exam' icon from Medmont Studio to launch a new exam.

Problem/s with Instrument Operation

When I switch on my M700, the fixation light does not appear. I can not start new exams, as the following error message appears; 'Could not connect to the M600/M700 Perimeter Hardware'.

There are two possible causes of this error:

1. Your perimeter is not connected to a working power source. Check if the power switch is lit green (on newer perimeters). Change to a different power point if the power light is not lit and retest.

2. Your perimeter has blown one or both of its fuses. These fuses are included for the protection of the device and are accessible via a small black fuse bay immediately next to the power switch. Use a coin to release the clip and slide the bay out toward you, then replace BOTH fuses with the two spare fuses that shipped with your perimeter (these fuses must always be changed as a pair). Note that the fuses may not appear to be blown to the naked eye (this is generally the case), but still need replacing.

NOTE: If you cannot locate the spare fuses shipped by Medmont, please contact us for replacement fuses. Do not attempt to fit similar fuses, as the fuses in your M700 are specially selected based on unique criteria.

Error Message/s When Starting a New Exam

I no longer have the icon to start a new M700 exam
I am receiving the message, 'No instrument has been installed on this machine...'
I am receiving the error, 'Unable to initialize video hardware'
I am receiving the error, 'An unexpected error (Could not locate capture device...'

I no longer have the icon I usually use to start a new M700 exam (grayed out). How do I get this icon back to start a new exam?

The absence of this icon indicates that there is a problem with the license information in Medmont Studio. Click into the Tools > License Manager menu to view your installed licenses. You may find that the error 'Dongle not detected' appears in the place of your proper license info.

If this is the case, check that your Medmont USB license dongle is inserted. Try reinserting it into a new (different) port to refresh the connection. Close and re-open Medmont Studio.

As soon as a valid license for M700 is installed (which is linked to your license dongle), the icon will reappear after restarting Medmont Studio. If it does not, try checking the license manager screen again. If the dongle ID now appears but the activation key field is blank, click Edit and enter your activation key, then click Ok.

If the dongle ID still does not appear and the message Dongle Not Detected is still showing, even after closing and re-opening Medmont Studio, please contact us for assistance.

When I start a new exam, I receive the error 'Unable to initialize video hardware'. When I dismiss the error, the video window for fixation tracking no longer appears.

This error indicates that Medmont Studio cannot connect to your perimeter's built-in fixation camera. This generally points to a problem with the video driver. An easy way to deal with this (and other general USB driver problems) is to unplug the device from its USB port on the PC and reinsert it into a different port (must be a USB2 port). This forces Windows to reinstall the drivers for that port, refreshing its connection with the device.

On Windows XP, when you reinsert the USB cable you will be presented with a dialog that asks if you want Windows to connect to Windows Update to search for a driver. Choose No, then click Next. You will then be asked if you want Windows to install the device automatically. If so, choose the default option (“Install the software automatically”), then click Next. This will install the appropriate driver for you automatically. Follow these steps for any subsequent ‘Add New Hardware’ screens that follow.

If you have followed the steps above and still receive the same error in Medmont Studio, please contact us for assistance.

I recently installed Medmont Studio under Windows XP and I am unable to start an M700 exam. The following error message appears; ‘An unexpected error (Could not locate capture device (USB2.0 A/V Converter)) occurred in Medmont Studio.

This issue arises due to Windows XP downloading and installing alternate drivers for the M700 from the internet. As a result, the M700 cannot be used and will always produce this error message until the correct drivers have been installed. Follow the steps below to rectify this issue:

  • Open Control Panel by selecting Start > Control Panel
  • Double click on the System icon
  • Select the Hardware tab at the top if the newly opened window and click the Device Manager button
  • Expand the [Sound, Video and game controller] options by clicking on the plus symbol and find a device called “USB 2821”
  • Right click on this device and select [Update Driver]
  • You will have two options to select from, select the option “Install from a list or a specific location (Advance)”, then select Next
  • At the next screen, select the option “Don’t search. I will choose the driver to install”, then click Next
  • Under the model list, select the option USB 2.0 A/V Converter. Select Next and allow the drivers to install
  • Once complete, select Finish. Verify the drivers installed correctly by checking under Imaging Devices for a device called USB 2.0 A/V Converter

Problem/s while in Exam Window

During an exam, sometimes the test stops by itself, with the status 'Patient Pause' displayed at the top of the test window
When I open a new exam, the name of the patient appears in a new window in my Start bar, but the actual test screen does not appear.

During an exam, sometimes the test stops by itself, with the status 'Patient Pause' displayed at the top of the test window.

If a patient needs to pause during a test (to ask the clinician a question, for example), they can hold down the patient switch for about a second to initiate Patient Pause mode. The message Patient Pause is displayed for as long as the patient switched is depressed, and the test will not resume until the button is released.

If your patient is not purposefully holding the button down, it is likely that they are holding down the button for a little too long on each test point. If this is not the case, your patient switch may be faulty or stuck. Please contact us for a replacement patient switch.

When I open a new exam, the name of the patient appears in a new window in my Start bar, but the actual test screen does not appear.

This problem has been caused by closing an exam screen while minimised. To resolve this, simply right-click the new window in your Start bar (which will contain the patient name) and choose 'Maximize'.
