Version 3.9.8

• Made Czech translation available in Slovak region
• Added extra checking to detect corrupt toolbar files. If toolbar corruption is detected Medmont Studio will inform the user before resetting the toolbar to its default settings.

• Added ability to compress export files and select the character type (ASCII or Unicode). When saving an export file you can now select one of four options:

• Medmont Export File (*.mxf) - ASCII XML file (as before)
• Compressed Export File (*.mcf) - ASCII XML compressed using xmill
• Unicode Export File (*.muf) - Unicode XML file (for extended non-English characters)
• Compressed Unicode Export File (*.mzf) - Unicode XML compressed using gzip

The compression options offer potentially huge reductions in the size of export files - for instance a 6.7Mb export file containing M700 exams compresses to about 34 Kb. Compression rates for E300 and DV2000 are lower due to the inclusion of binary image data.

• Added a linkage mechanism to allow 3rd party programs (such as Contact Lens or Analysis software) to be linked to Medmont Studio. The 3rd party product adds a registry entry which adds a customized button under a "Links" menu. When the user click this button, Medmont Studio exports the currently selected item(s) and calls the specified program passing it the export file name (via DDE or command line parameter). Contact Medmont for more details if you wish to utilize this feature.
• Added IFile practice management integration
• Added "resume" functionality to Patient Conversion utility. If you abort a conversion to a third party database then your settings are automatically reverted to the original patient database. If you attempt the conversion at a later stage then the utility can reload any patient ID matches you made in the previous unfinished conversion.

• Added Spanish Translation

• Fixed problem with accessing 3rd party FoxPro databases under Windows XP. Setup now installs the FoxPro ODBC drivers if required.
• Added OPM practice management integration
• Changed setup and install guide so that DCOM client/server installation is less likely to be installed by accident (it is no longer the recommended installation method for 3rd party database integrations)
• Numeric entry fields now spin when you click on the up/down buttons and hold the mouse down.

• Changed printing so that Studio no longer changes the default printer.
• Print settings are now saved for each type of view. This allows you, for instance, to have M700 printouts sent to one printer and DV2000 printouts sent to another with different titles, margins and papersizes.

• Added option to allow Patient Filter to be saved when exiting program and restored when loading next time. This allows Patient Management Integration users to significantly increase the speed of loading by using the Patient Filter to load just the patient they are currently working with.
• Added "Show Patients" option to Patient Filter (requires Feature Pack 1 licence). This allows you to turn off display of patients altogether. All of the exams for all patients are then displayed directly under the Practice. This is very useful for finding exams using the Exam Filters.
• Added Windows 2000 DCOM configuration notes to the Installation Guide and modified Setup to automatically run the DCOM configuration program (DCOMCNFG) when installing a Server under Windows 2000.

• Fixed sounds under Windows 2000 (previously sound did not work under Windows 2000)

• Changed Medmont Studio Export function to report error when disk space runs out
• Fixed input of Practice Fax/Telephone numbers

• Fixed Windows 2000 licensing problem which caused licence files to be reported as corrupted following a change to/from Day Light saving time. Please note that if you are running Windows 2000 (with NTFS) you may need run the LicenceClean utility (in the Utilities directory) and obtain a new licence from Medmont after installing this upgrade.

• Added support for Medmont Studio Viewer (requires Feature Pack 1 licence). Allows Medmont Export Files (*.mxf) to be viewed interactively using free Medmont Studio Viewer and transformed to HTML. This means you can share your data with colleagues who aren’t lucky enough to own a Medmont instrument. The viewer allows the user to interactively select different views of the data (eg Axial/Tangential power), pan, zoom, rotate, and change the colour scaling of images.

• Enhanced Print Preview support. Print Preview now provides zoom function and ability to save the preview image to clipboard or file (requires Feature Pack 1 licence).
• Patient Selection dialogs have an additional Find text box to make selecting a patient from a large database significantly easier.
• The Patient Management licence is no longer required – if Medmont Studio is licensed then Patient Management is also licensed. This reduces the lengths of licence keys.
• Help files are now in Adobe Acrobat PDF format. This means that you can print or view the current manual directly.
• Fixed problems with large disks (>2Gb) under Windows 2000 causing corrupted licence message

• Support for Windows 2000
• Support for client/server installation. Previously the patient database (and other databases) could only be shared by using windows file sharing to export the drive that the shared database was on – then, during installation of Medmont Studio, setting the Data directory to point at the shared area. For slow networks and some 3rd party patient databases this caused very slow performance. V3.2 allows a separate server application to be installed on the machine that hosts the database(s) locally. A client application is then installed which communicates with the server application.
• Windows resource usage has been improved. Previously Medmont Studio cached controls to improve performance. This could cause you to run out of system resources under Windows95/98 if you had E300, M600 and DV2000 all installed. The software now unloads controls from the cache when system resources reach a set threshold.
• The position of the splitter bar separating the explorer pane from the view pane is now saved and restored when the software is restarted.
• New Auto Enumerate Items option. Turning this option off allows more efficient access to remote and network databases

• Export and Import facilities now allow you to exchange patient and exam data using eXtensible Markup Language (XML) format files.
• The explorer tree has been optimised to provide better performance (especially noticeable for non-Medmont Patient Databases)
• Dynamic Data Linking and Embedding (DDE) has been added to Studio to allow 3rd party software to launch Studio and select patients. A shell program “MedmontStudioDDE” is provided which takes the patient ID as a parameter. It launches Studio if required and uses DDE to select the patient. For example: MedmontStudioDDE PatientMgt:Select '124' Would launch Studio (if not already running) and select the patient with ID 124
• The ability to get licences over the internet has been added
• Bug in License Manager which allowed you to accidentally “lose” licences while transferring have been fixed
• Thumbnails are now faster and use much less memory. Program crashes during display and printing of thumbnails have been fixed.

What’s new for the E300?

Version 3.9.6

• Fixed problem causing export of some E300 results to fail (resulting in an error message indicating that the disk may be full)
• Improved algorithms detection of inner ring. Occassionally with a very faint inner ring reflection the algorithm would fail to correctly identify the inner ring leading to an obviously incorrect map.

• Modified BE Enterprises FE Lens design to allow user to change BOZR, E and Tangent Angles
• Added BE Enterprises Advanced KBA and GBA Lens Designs
• Fixed bug in version 3.9.4 which meant that the outer ring of topographer was not calibrated correctly. This could lead to an error in the peripheral tangential power for instruments calibrated using version 3.9.4.

• Changed the analysis algorithm so that it handles eyelash interference better. Note that this may change slightly the amount of coverage for some exams if they are reanalysed.
• Fixed CLC Conoid Lens design so that it retains the details of toric lens designs
• Increased the allowable range of base curve radii for CLC Conoid and PGA designs
• Add Axial Curvature, Tangential Curvature, Raw Height and Surface Normal columns to the Analysis Details (Feature Pack 1 licence only)
• Updated Leutron drivers to fix problems with newer Leutron boards not initializing

• Updated Leutron driver. The new driver fixes the issue with Intel 845G chipsets (which required the video sequencer to be disabled). The driver also fixes problems with some motherboards running Windows2000/XP which required the BIOS "Plug and Play OS" setting to be set to false.
• Added BE Enterprises FE Contact Lens design
• Added Surface Asymettry Index (SAI) and Surface Regularity Index (SRI) to Details View

• Added PCI chipset compatibility option to the Leutron driver which allows the video sequencer to be disabled. The video sequencer provides increased video performance but may cause flicker or hangs with certain PCI chipsets (in particular the Intel 845G). Run the "SequencerDisable.reg" file in the Leutron sub directory to disable the use of the video sequencer.

• Added new shape (circles, rectangles, freehand, curves etc) and ruler annotations. The ruler annotation allows you to quickly measure the distance between two points (eg for measuring HVID). Requires Feature Pack 1 licence.
• Added Ledaperm Contact Lens design (David Thomas Contact Lenses Pty - UK)
• Fixed problem causing profile and readout indicators to disappear on some graphics cards (previous workaround was to reduce the graphics hardware acceleration level)
• Fixed problem which caused Image Options dialog to lockup when displayed from within OCA Atlas

• Added Nihon Optical AJ/AS Contact Lens Design
• Reduced minimum KBA Base Curve Radius to allow designs with smaller base curve radii.
• Fixed problem in generation of elevation data which caused a small constant offset (1 to 2 microns) from the correct value. This problem was only evident when looking at elevation data for calibration balls with the colour scale set to show maximum detail.

• Fixed problem causing the automated Contact Lens fitting to take a long time under Win 2000/XP.
• Changed E300 export format so that analysis data (corneal height etc) is exported in clear text XML (ie not Base64 encoded binary). This makes it much easier to use the export files in 3rd party products and allows users to do their own analysis. PLEASE NOTE: This change means that MXF files exported by V3.8.2 can not be read by earlier versions.
• Added BE Enterprises KBA Lens Design
• Fixed problem which caused exams exported by Version 3.7.1 and earlier to be incorrectly analysed when displayed in Version 3.8.1 Viewer

• Added Spanish Translation
• Enhanced Details View to provide Analysis Details for the exam and included colour map
• Added Inferior/Superior (I-S) Index for keratoconus screening (in Details View)
• Fixed problems with e-values/shape factors for keratoconic eyes - reverted to the more robust algorithm used in Version 3.7.1
• Fixed version error when opening E300 export files in Viewer
• Fixed problem which caused noisy elevation data and distorted perspective displays under some conditions. This fix means that exams captured with older versions of the software will be automatically reanalysed when next viewed.

• Added ability to create an "Idealized" eye from one or more exams. This creates a symmetric, toric ellipsoidal surface which best approximates the average of the selected exams (requires Feature Pack 1 licence).
• Increased the displayed precision of BOZR in contact fitting display
• Fixed problem of profile scale being clipped on some printers
• Added option to allow the user to select whether E300 Exam bitmap data is exported. This allows the size of E300 export files to be greatly reduced.
• Changed Contact Lens package so that you select the lens design prior to it being fitted and displayed. Previously the default lens design was fitted and you could then elect to change the design.

• Fixed Contact View to make Image menu visible
• Fixed behaviour of the Calibration combo box in Exam Details view

• Made Analysis Details window resizable
• Changed Average Corneal Height column in Analysis Details to Weighted Average Height. This now displays a weighted average of the corneal height across two points on the chord. The weighted average corrects for corneal tilt and provides a more accurate input for BE Ortho-K software.
• Changed Analysis Details to automatically set the meridian to the average flat meridian as new tests are selected
• Added ability to select Contact Lens designs to install (by manufacturer) during setup
• Added ability to add text annotations and callouts to E300 Exams (requires Feature Pack 1 Licence)
• Changed contact fitting alogorithm to allow for corneal compression (this reduces the impact of isolated bumps - by allowing negative fit values)

• Fixed toolbars when displaying a maximised E300 exam in a Thumbnail view (exam toolbars did not work in this case in versions 3.6.2 and 3.6.3)

• Changed Exam Filter so that filter by date from a given date to the same date will find exams on that day

• Fixed hang which occurred in 3.6.1 when changing map type with multiple tests selected

• Added Auto Update check box to Spherical Contact Lens Design dialog. Allows users to turn off automatic update of peripheral curves when designing custom lenses.
• Added support for Corneal Lens Corporation contact lens designs

• Incorporated new Windows 2000 drivers for Leutron capture card to fix IRQ assignment problems with some newer motherboards
• Minor adjustments to pupil finding algorithm to increase sensitivity and range of pupils found

• Fixed bug in pupil finding algorithm that meant the centre of the pupil was not found.

• The Contact Lens package has had extensive work done to provide support for aspheric, conic and other non-spherical lens designs. There is no longer a separate Contact Lens Designer form. Contact Lens design parameters can be edited from the Contact Lens view directly using dialogs specific to the particular lens design. This means it is now possible to display a power map while viewing and editing a contact lens design – or display and edit two contact lens designs simultaneously. One side effect of the new generality is that the boundaries of spherical peripheral curves are no longer displayed.
• A separate Contact Lens licence is no longer required. If the E300Review licence is present then the ContactLens package is also licensed. This reduces the lengths of licence keys.
• Help files are now in Adobe Acrobat PDF format. This means that you can print or view the current manual directly.

• E300 Calibration has been made much simpler. To verify the current calibration (and optionally recalibrate) just click on the Tools->Recalibrate menu. The calibration wizard guides you through the steps to capture calibration images and verify the current calibration. Capture of the images is now fully automatic. Align each image as you would for a patient and the system will automatically capture when the correct position is reached.
• Map and Display Types are now linked for the Map and Compare Views. This means that if you select Tangential Power displayed using a 3D Perspective view for a single result, then when you select Compare View these settings are retained.
• Image Options dialogs now apply changes immediately. There is no longer an apply button for these dialogs. For the combination and compare views the window pane selector is now linked to the window pane (allowing you to select pane which you wish to change by clicking on the window pane or its corresponding selector button in the options dialog)
• Leutron Vision framegrabber is now supported under Windows2000. Support for the Euresys Picolo framegrabber has been added for both Windows95/98 and Windows2000.

• E300 Capture now uses a separate full screen window. This allows you to capture an E300 exam without having to first create/select a patient. When the exam is captured you can analyse it and decide if you wish to save it.
• Exam Sort order is now saved. If you used the sort order to change the order in which exams are displayed in the explorer and view panes you don’t have to set this each time you start Studio.
• Sagittal Height at Chord option has been replaced by a much more comprehensive Analysis Details dialog which allows you to display apical curvature, sagittal height, shape factors and E-Values calculated at any meridian and chord.
• Analysis Options have been simplified and enhanced:
  • You can now manually specify the radius of the sphere that is used for calculating elevation. This allows you to display elevation difference maps based on a common baseline elevation.
  • You can select how elliptical eccentricity is displayed (ie Shape Factors or E-Values)
  • You can select the chord at which Shape Factors/E-Values are calculated. This is useful when comparing exams to results from other instruments
• The format of calibration files has changed. Previously three separate calibration files were required – now there is a single file that uses an XML format. The software cannot read older (V1.1 and earlier) calibration files. Generally this is not an issue for users because the calibration stored in the database is automatically upgraded. If you need to install the instrument on a new PC – and are not transferring the database then you will need to generate a new calibration file. You can do this by installing Version 3.2 on the current PC, select the Filter->Show E300 Calibrations menu to display calibrations. Select the latest calibration and click on the Export button.

What’s new for DV2000?

Version 3.9.8

• Added new cup/disk area attribute in default import

• Fixed problem with explorer pane not automatically refreshing to show exams imported using the Image Import window.
• Increased the limit on the number of frames that can be captured in a video sequence to 2000 - requires sufficient RAM to support this
• Fixed problems with display of Custom Image Operations toolbars in the Image Import window
• Updated Leutron drivers to fix problems with newer Leutron boards not initializing
• Fixed problem with DCOM installations getting an error when creating or editing DV2000 Attributes

• Added new DV2000 Advanced Analysis licence. This licence provides a range of new advanced facilities for measuring distances, areas and other geometric features of images. These measurements can be automatically stored in the database as attributes of the image. The user can also create expressions which generate image attributes from mathematical equations (based on other attribute values). The licence includes power database filtering facilities to locate images based on these attribute values. This facility provide a fully customisable solution to measurement of cup/disk ratio in retinal imaging and allows the user to quickly locate all images in the database that meet certain criteria (eg cup/disk ratio greater then a given value).
• Fixed bug in Image Import which caused the Image Import window to hide when importing files.

• Added Spanish Translation
• Fixed drag and drop in Image Import window so that it works correctly with Auto Save turned on.
• Changed Image Import menu to restore the image import window if it is already open but iconized.

• Added support for Flashbus video capture card under Windows 2000/XP
• Added support for TWAIN under Windows 95, 2000 and XP.
• Added TWAIN transfer mode options to allow transfer of images via memory - much quicker than file transfer if the image is smaller than free RAM.
• Added option to allow TWAIN dialog to remain open after importing images. This allows you to eliminate constant opening/closing of the TWAIN dialog while importing images.

• Fixed problems due to TWAIN window not being closed before closing Import window.

• Added "Show DV2000 Exams" option to the DV2000 Exam Filter dialog (requires Feature Pack 1 licence). This allows you to turn off display of DV2000 Exams altogether. This can be useful if you have multiple components installed.

• Added new bulk image import function (requires Feature Pack 1 licence). Allows multiple external images to be automatically imported and matched to patients based on user-defined criteria.
• Incorporated new Windows 2000 drivers for Leutron capture card to fix IRQ assignment problems with some newer motherboards

• New Import Image form added to improve ease of importing images from digital cameras and thirty party systems.
• Capture Screen functionality simplified. Previously there were two separate ways to save captured images (as a sequence or a set of exams), now the capture mode determines how the images will be saved. In Single Image mode each image is saved as a separate exam. In Image Sequence and Video modes the images are saved as a single exam with a sequence of images. In Single Image mode you can now elect to save the selected image or all the captured images.
• Help files are now in Adobe Acrobat PDF format. This means that you can print or view the current manual directly.

• Leutron Vision, Euresys Picolo and VideoForWindows framegrabbers are now supported under Windows2000

• DV2000 Capture now uses a separate full screen window. This allows you to capture DV2000 images without having to first create/select a patient. When the image is captured you can examine it and decide if you wish to save it.
• The distinction between Image Exams and Sequence Exams has been removed. If you save multiple images from the capture window they are now always saved as a sequence. This eliminates the horrible possibility of accidentally saving a sequence of 40 frames as 40 individual exams. The displayed icons are still different but an Image exam is just an exam where there is only one frame (or image).
• Exam Sort order is now saved. If you used the sort order to change the order in which exams are displayed in the explorer and view panes you don’t have to set this each time you start Studio.
• Delete Version capability has been added to allow deletion of all versions with a given name from an exam. This eliminates the previously tedious business of deleting a version from a large sequence.
• [File->New->DV2000 Import Exam] option has been added. This allows you to create a blank exam to import into. Images can be dragged from other applications into the exam.
• Bug causing the Contrast Stretch display to be corrupted has been fixed.

What’s new for the M600/M700?

Version 3.9.8

• Fixed occasional hangs (non-responses) while performing a test with the USB interface.
• Changed the central 22A test to not have fixed exposure times. This will allow the user to set the exposure times to slow and fast, bringing it into line with the other tests.

• Fixed bug introduced in 3.9.6, which caused the "Remove Lens" prompt to not to be shown before testing points outside 30 degrees.
• Added support for USB control as an alternative to COM port control.
• Added support for Belkin USB 2 Video converter.

• Fixed problem where fixation lights were not flashing at the end of test under some circumstances.
• Fixed bug which caused the previous test result for a given eye to be overwritten if the test window was not closed after testing the left and right eyes of a patient (ie test right - save, test left -save then test right eye again without closing window)
• Removed "Remove Lens" prompt in the case where the test has finished (ie there are no points to test outside the 30 degree central zone)
• Added support for new M700 board which allows use of high intensity back lights for German driving test requirements.
• Changed software to automatically find the COM port that a given M600/M700 is connected to. This means you no longer have to specify a COM port when setting up an instrument and can change the COM port without having to reconfigure the software.

• Fixed calculation of Pattern Defect and Cluster Analysis for screening tests. Previously these statistics were not calculated for screening tests.

• Reduced the size of the font used for multiprint to minimize overlapping of numeric data
• Fixed refresh problem where a test was saved then points retested and/or added. The updated test was not being correctly displayed in Studio unless the user manually refreshed.
• Added Czech and German translations
• Fixed error in multiprint display where Fixation Losses and Short Term Fluctuation values were printed against the incorrect labels

• Fixed bug in Test Templates for older perimeters (172 and 176 LED perimeters) that prevented calibrations loading correctly

• Fixed problem with installation of sounds for test events (sounds for all events were the same)
• Fixed problem with the display of the Fixation Loss message. Previously if you dismissed this message without recalibrating the blind spot then it was not displayed again even if a new test was started, unless the Test screen was closed and reopened.
• Fixed problem where exams imported from Version 2.3 would sometimes exibit annular artificacts in the shaded map display that weren't evident in the numeric display.

NOTE: The above fixes resulted in changes to the export format for M700 exams. This means that M700 exams can not be exported from V3.9.2 and imported into an earlier version

• Added Hi-Res black and white printout of colour images. Select an M700 exam then use the Print Setup->Layout tab options button to select colour printouts (deselect the Shaded Grayscale option). Then on the Print Setup, Printer tab ensure that the Grayscale printer option is selected. This will adjust the colours used in the colour key so that they print correctly on monochrome printers.

• Added new shape (circles, rectangles, freehand, curves etc) annotations. Requires Feature Pack 1 licence
• Fixed problem causing profile and readout indicators to disappear on some graphics cards (previous workaround was to reduce the graphics hardware acceleration level)
• Fixed problem which caused Image Options dialog to lockup when displayed from within OCA Atlas
• Fixed shaded display of Screening Tests - previously the shaded display would sometimes display normal regions as minor defects
• Fixed bug in Screening Test which caused testing of calibration points to commence at 0 Db. This problem only occurred for test templates created by versions prior to Version 3-6-4.
• Fixed bug causing zero Test Duration to be saved if "Prompt To Save" option is selected.

• Modified the algorithms used to determine the Hill of Vision (HOV), Pattern Defect and Overall Defect to make them more robust and accurate - in particular for cases where there is a large central defect. These statistics are automatically recomputed using the new algorithms when older exams are displayed. This means that you can compare statistics of older and new exams. Printouts done before this release was installed may exhibit slightly different values for these statistics to that displayed by the new software. Note that these changes mean that exams exported by Version 3.8.3 cannot be imported back into earlier versions.
• Fixed the a problem with the screening strategy which caused the displayed HOV 3 degree intercept value to be set to the screening level rather than the predicted HOV value (ie 6 dB too low).

• Added monocular/binocular video window definitions to calibrations. The test window now shows the appropriate rectangle of the video depending on whether the test is monocular or binocular (video equipped M700's only)
• Fixed the defaults for Regression Print.
• Fixed display of Peripheral Tests so that central data is not interpolated. To make use of this change you must reimport the system templates.

• Print options are now select via the Layout tab of the Print Setup dialog (instead of from the Options menu). This means that you can change M600/M700 print options from the Print Preview screen to immediately see the effect of changes.

• Fixed Patient Pause (previously would only pause for about 2 seconds before resuming).
• The Binocular Driving Test template has been changed to use a linear scale (in conformance with UK DVLA). Unused points have been removed from the template to reduce the clutter in the central area. Existing users will need to delete and reinstall the perimeter to get the new system templates.
• Fixed test behaviour when communication with the perimeter is lost. Previously if the perimeter was unplugged or turned off during a test, the test would hang and the test window had to be closed and reopened before you could continue. Now communication failure is reported and the test aborted (but can be resumed by clicking start test again).

• Fixed Binocular Single Vision Test (was causing crash)
• Fixed order of blind spot testing for older 172 and 176 LED perimeters (for existing installations the instrument should be deleted and reinstalled to get the new system templates with the correct blind spot definitions).

• A Fixed Level binocular strategy has been added to support UK DVLA requirements that allows go/no-go testing at a nominal fixed level of 5dB. This provides very fast field testing where the only requirement is that the light point was seen or not.
• A new System Test Field called Fixed Binocular has been added that uses the new Fixed Level strategy. The field is designed to provide the equivalent Esterman score and is suitable for screening tests where an Esterman score is required.
• Help files are now in Adobe Acrobat PDF format. This means that you can print or view the current manual directly.

• This is the first customer release of the Medmont Studio M600/M700 Software
• Regression package has been implemented. Select a patient and then View->M700 Regression.
• Multi-Print support has been added. Select a patient then File->M700 Multiprint to print all of the patients results in Multi-Print format.
• Format of the calibration files has changed to an XML based format. The software will not read older (Version 3.1) calibration files. Existing 3.1 users will be provided with a calibration disk in the new format. During installation answer “Yes” when asked if you wish to install a perimeter and insert this new disk.

• This was the Beta (preliminary) release of the Medmont Studio implementation of the M600/M700 software.
